A friend recently complained that she wants to know MORE about our travelling to Brazil. Well, it's very hard to speak about such an intense experience. And to describe it in details. So many things happened, we met so many amazing people. It is just the three of us who could actually know and understand the whole story. We were the only ones there the whole month and were so lucky to have a chance to see, smell, hear, feel all that. No description and no picture could give you this. You will have to do it on you own. And of course, this will be your experience.
Why Froget-me-nots? Because we would like to tell you about some of the little big things that happened, things that especially we would not like to forget.
1. Trindade: At some place we saw the sign that they were selling acai. As no one was there we were looking around if someone would appear but... nothing. The guy who owned the place next door saw us and we told him that we would like to have some acai but no one was there. He himself wasn't selling acai but he simply woke up the lady who owned that place and told her that there were some girls eager to get acai, she came down and made it for us and we ate it at the guy's place.
2. Trindade... again: Us complicating with food... again :) Well, we wanted to have pastel and salad but one bar would sell pastels and the other salads. What should we do now? Nothing. The guy from the salad bar went to the pastel bar and brought it for us. Yes, that's how bussines is done in Brazil.
3. Brazilians speaking English (Sorry guys, this will be interesting for Slovenian speakers): Bredži Piči, piči buli, siči dawn, Bobi Marli, wajči miči , it is very šip ... Anyone could guess what that means? :)
4. Teaching Carlos some Slovenian words: čik gum (chewing gum), lačen (hungry), žejen (thirsty), pes (a dog). That was mostly it, right?
5. The singing sand: Walking on the sandy beach in Trindade, you could hear some unusual sound. Let just say, that the sand was singing a song to us :)
6. Dormideira: a very special flower which closes its leaves when you touch them. Like it's trying to get some sleep. A funny thing.
7. Douglas, the gallinho: I've already mentioned that guy who was really trying to impress me. But I didn't mention that the part of his mission was also to perform all kinds of silly exercises on the beach (like push-ups), so I could see how strong he is. Funny, funny, funny...
8. Sao Paolo: When we entered the room in our hostel in Sao Paolo we experienced a very warm welcome from a COACH ROACH. A huge one!!! We went to the reception desk and told the receptionist that we want to change the room, after all we were paying only for 3, we didn't want any company. He was really embarrassed, his face turned red and just gave us a key for another room not even noticing that it was the room for 6. Before we managed to enter the room he already ran through the stairs bringing us other keys, for smaller room of course. No unwanted company in there.
9. Paolo from Paraty: a guy who is working in a hostel. And living in the middle of the jungle. Not alone because there are some snakes living on the roof of his house. Do I have to say that it doesn't bother him? Probably not. Oh, and as a shower he is using water from the waterfalls.
10. Different people, different ways... In our hostel in Paraty there was one guest asking me for some tourist info, I don't even remember what was it all about. I said to him that he should ask the boys working there. They were extremely nice to us and they'd help if only they could. And his answer was: No, no, I don't trust this local guys. I was really shocked at that time!!! He was travelling with that kind of attitude! I wouldn't be surprised if he really had very bad experiences. Like attracts like. Later on I could understand his fears. If he started his travels more in the north, I can believe that he could have had some bad experiences. People are different there, there are more scams, more thieves. I'm sorry, the purpose of this in not to be a racist, but indeed we had different experience with some people from the north. Most of them were nice, but also people you encounter on the street don't give you very positive impression. But at the end the good ones prevailed.
11.Waiter from Trancoso: This one was a real pain in the ass. We wanted to have breakfast in a bar. We were waiting almost half an hour to get the menu. Actually Tina went into the bar to get it. Eventually the guy came to our table and asked us what we would eat. And then it took him more than 1 hour to get us our breakfast. 1 HOUR!!! And he didn't even bring the food we ordered - instead of toast with butter and honey just toast wit butter, no cheese bread for Tina and no coffees for all 3 of us. At the table next to us there were some Italian women. They ordered 2 teas and what they got were 2 tea bags in one cup of tea :) And one other lady ordered yogurt with cereals and fruit and she got 2 yogurts - 1 with fruit and 1 with cereals. Jp, this one really pissed me off. Sooo much!!! I was even able to explain in Portuguese that this time we are not paying "taxa de servicio" No way!!!
12.Bart and Olivia from Pousada dos Duendes: We were really short on money and we didn't know when we'll get it. And this guys were so nice to us. Bart arranged with his boss that we could pay to his account and Olivia didn't even ask a question, she just gave us the money. And when I went to thank her she seemed almost embarrassed for that. Very modest and very kind person. Thank you again.
13.Brazilian bikini: This is a special chapter, really. We were all excited to buy a new bikini, a Brazilian bikini. Friends told us that they do have an amazing beach fashion. Yeah, sure!!! An amazing fashion but somehow they lack material. We were trying all kinds of bikini but everything was too small, even grande=large. Brazilian bikini is really minimalistic, just covering the essential parts of the ass and the boobs. Just the essential, no more. Well, they didn't convience us. Sorry.
